Lao PDR Women’s National 7s Team

The Lao Women’s National Sevens Teams will compete in the 17th Asian Games in the Republic of Korea from 29 September - 2 October.  The trip will mark the first tour for any Lao National Rugby Team to this world stage and is an exciting step for the women who have been working hard to represent their country at the Games.

National Team players are the faces of rugby in their communities and country and embody rugby’s core principles of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship on the pitch and in their daily lives.  The health and fitness they attain through high-intensity national team training sessions and preparation camps gives these players tools to support their lifestyles as elite athletes, but also to draw on later as active, healthy adults in their communities.

For nearly all of the athletes on the Lao National teams, international competitions offer the players their first chance to travel outside of the Lao PDR.  The teams meet players from other countries for hard-fought competition on the pitch and, in the spirit of rugby sportsmanship, embrace the same players as friends off the field.  Players from the Lao teams have embraced and enjoyed this same tradition, forging lasting friendships with players spanning the continent from Iran to Malaysia.
